Our wines
The grapes for our wines come from controlled organic cultivation and are certified organic, as are the entire facilities at Monte de Matacães. The vines benefit from the biodiversity and the intact, beautiful ecosystem of the Monte de Matacães estate. The biodiversity not only helps the plants but is also a treat for the eyes and heart.
All Organic
On Monte de Matacães, the varieties Arinto, Verdelho (white), Aragonez, Alicante Bouchet, Touriga Nacional and Alfrocheiro (red) are planted on a good 7 hectares.

Our grapes are harvested by hand with helpers from the region. After the harvest, the grapes are selected on the sorting belt and only the best fruit finds its way into the fermentation tanks.

Our wines are pressed and matured with the utmost care by the neighbouring winery Herdade da Cardeira according to strict organic standards.
Branco 2024
Grape varieties: Arinto | Verdelho
Matacães Branco 2024 is an exclusive wine made from Arinto and Verdelho, two typical Portuguese grape varieties. The hand-harvested grapes were carefully vinified at Herdade da Cardeira, preserving their essence and quality.

This wine reflects the unique character of its terroir, with schist and limestone soils typical of the Borba region in Alto Alentejo. Its fruity, elegant, and fresh aroma reveals notes of lemon and grapefruit, characteristic of the Arinto and Verdelho grapes.
On the palate, it offers remarkable balance, with a naturally pleasant acidity that ensures a captivating freshness.

Our 2024 white wine is an excellent aperitif and pairs beautifully with fish dishes and cheese, making it an essential companion at the table.
Tinto 2022
Grape varieties: Aragonêz | Alicante Bouschet | Touriga Nacional
The Matacães Red Wine 2022 was fermented with natural yeasts and carefully vinified. The blend was created during the harvest, ensuring a harmonious composition.

Our Tinto 2022 is a complex and multi-layered red wine with a rich bouquet featuring notes of ripe red fruits and spices. It was aged for twelve months in French oak barrels, giving it a well-rounded structure, depth of character, and full-bodied volume. Its balanced acidity lends a fresh yet smooth experience on the palate.

This bold wine pairs beautifully with meat dishes, grilled fish, cheese, and casseroles.

It will reach its optimal drinking maturity by the end of 2026. This wine may naturally contain a little tartar, so it is better to decant it before drinking.
Talha 2022
Grape varieties: Aragonêz | Alicante Bouschet | Touriga Nacional
The Talha 2022 was made from the typical Portuguese grape varieties Alicante Bouchet, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez and fermented with natural yeasts (no additions). The cuvée was created during the harvest.
It was vinified in old clay pots in the Herdade da Cardeira cellar using the traditional Portuguese method.
The wine is characterised by the terroir of the Borba region in the Alto Alentejo with its slate and limestone soils. It captivates with its aromas of ripe red fruit and subtle notes of spices. The oxidation characteristics typical of Talha wines give it a pleasant freshness.
Talha 2022 is a wine for the connoisseur who is looking for the purity and tradition of the Alentejo of yesteryear. It is an excellent accompaniment to meat and fish dishes.

Tinto 2021
Grape varieties: Aragonêz | Alicante Bouschet | Touriga Nacional
The Tinto 2021 was made from the typical Portuguese grape varieties Alicante Bouchet, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez and fermented with natural yeasts. The cuvée was created during the harvest.
The Matacães red wine 2021 was vinified with great care.
Our Tinto 2021 is a complex, multi-layered red wine with a rich bouquet and notes of ripe red fruit and spices. It has matured for twelve months in French oak barrels, which gives it its rounded structure, character and powerful volume. Its balanced acidity makes it fresh and soft in the mouth and on the palate.
This powerful wine is an excellent accompaniment to meat dishes, but also to grilled fish, cheese and casseroles.
It will reach its optimum drinking maturity at the end of 2024.
Branco 2022
Grape varieties: Arinto
The Matacães 2022 white wine is made exclusively from the Arinto grape variety, which is typical of Portugal. The grapes were harvested by hand with helpers from the region and carefully vinified in the Herdade da Cardeira cellar.
This white wine is characterised by the terroir of the Borba region in the Alto Alentejo with its slate and limestone soils. It impresses with its fruity flavours.

Our Arinto 2022 is an elegant and fresh wine with a bouquet reminiscent of lemon and grapefruit, which is characteristic of the Arinto grape variety. It matured for six months in new French oak barrels. The wood gave it its pale yellow colour and soft, spicy notes. It is balanced on the palate and the natural acidity gives the dry wine a seductive freshness.
Our Arinto goes well as an aperitif and is an excellent accompaniment to fish dishes and cheese.
